The My Buttered Life: Gift Edition has been out for a few weeks and we've already had some great feedback. I wanted to share what Debbie wrote to me, including the beautiful photos of skin care products...
I love hearing what you're doing with your homemade skin care products. I just had to share this, from Melissa in Ohio: I made a foot bar, with the addition of tea tree and peppermint oil (and just a tad more beeswax), cinnamon lip balm (which was just as dreamy as the peppermint, not sure which I like more) and I also made my own deodorant! I lowered the beeswax and added baking soda, cornstarch and a few drops of tea tree oil. It's AWESOME!!! This weekend, I am going to make a few scented bars (ylang ylang &...
Received today via email: I am interested in buying your e-book to make my own sunscreen but worry about two things: Efficiency : How do you know if it did block the sun/UVA? Construction...
This has been a blast to put together, although a bit of a harried one, to put together a group of summer recipes (which I couldn't test too early in the year, before the sun and mosquitoes arrived)! But it's finished, and it's beautiful. It's the first of a series of e-books. Think of it like a cookbook for skin care. Each book will have its own theme, and this one is appropriately called the summer edition. It features 5 recipes (sunscreen, tanning oil, bug repellent bar, foot protector bar and a full body...
Sometimes you just want an easy way to apply hard lotion. Rather than pour into molds, pour into an empty deodorant tube and when it's hardened, it's easy to "spot apply" to dry patches or on wiggly...

Last year on Mother's Day, my husband proudly announced that he scheduled a massage for me. I panicked. First, I was not the massage type. Scratch that... massage, yes, but massage by a total stranger? No. Second, I could think of two things I would rather do with $50: shop Kohls, then hit Starbuck's. Third, what in the world do I do during a massage?? Talk? Listen to my iPod? Strip? To what? I was uncomfortable just thinking about it. Now, a year later, it was the best gift ever. I was pleasantly surprised...
I made this bar a couple weeks ago and I must say that I am VERY impressed with the Three Thieves-inspired lotion bar. The scent is strong but not pungent. Best of all, it appears to be working well on a bumpy area of my son's leg that we've tried to treat with tea tree oil with a carrier base. That wasn't enough. This lotion bar appears to be doing the trick and I think it's due to the sealing action of the beeswax. This is a must for your home apothecary.
Fragrance oils are a synthetic imitation of pure essential oils. While they can offer a lovely scent to a product, they don't offer the botanical properties found in pure essential oils. Some could be toxic. Essential oils are extracted from individual plant sources and often last longer. Many even carry special antibacterial or anti-fungal properties. Essential oils scents are associated with emotions (soothing jasmine), memories (cinnamon at Christmastime), or regions (rosemary in Southern France). Info...
